Abstract

Inappropriate use of antibiotics is the leading cause of increasing antimicrobial resistance, one of the most important problems of present medicine. Being upper respiratory tract infections the most frequent origin of antibiotic prescription is essential the judicious use of antimicrobial agents in this group of diseases, selecting them in terms of adequate coverage for organisms involved, clinically proved efficacy and narrow spectrum in order to reduce the potential to induce resistance. This is an actualized revision of articles dealing with the management of acute pharyngitis, otitis media and sinusitis with especial attention to those focused on evidence based pediatrics.
