Abstract
The care of children in our health care model is carried out by paediatricians working in Primary Health Care (PHC) and has proved to be beneficial and satisfactory to its users.
Changes in the use of health services as well as in the perception of the priorities of child health, the new demographic and social trends (immigration, people with social problems, new user profiles with more information and demand, etc.), changes in the acute pathology and an increase in chronic diseases, and so on, suggest that a revision of the occupational profile of the primary care paediatrician is needed, as well as an adequate staffing as there is a worrying lack of professionals.
The Association of Primary Care Paediatrics in Andalusia (APap-Andalusia) has commissioned the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP) to research "Strategic Development of Primary Care Paediatrics in Andalusia", in order to analyze the current situation and propose alternatives for better staff positioning in the future.
A comprehensive research is being carried out that will enable us to produce an image of the paediatric Primary Care in Andalusia. It will highlight the difficulties and limitations, as well as the expectations, needs and improvements necessary both from the perspective of paediatricians and from other related professionals (family medicine, nursing, social work, hospital paediatricians and health administration).
This information will help to raise a strategic diagnosis based on the opinion of experts, in order to identify necessary strategies and action.
