Abstract
A male term neonate had a parchment-like surface membrane covering the whole body. Due to suspicion of collodion baby, he was admitted 19 hours post birth for monitoring and observation. Preventive treatment for keratitis and synechiae and conservative measures were initiated, with temperature control and high humidity in the incubator, aseptic measures and intense hydration with emollients.
Collodion baby is a rare dermatosis (incidence: 1/50 000-100 000). It requires adequate diagnosis and management, given the severe changes in the skin barrier, and be associated with complications such as dehydration, hypothermia or skin infection.
