Are the nurse´s advices efficient at treating obesity in children and adolescents?

Objectives: to assess the effectiveness of a programmed intervention in a nurses?s consultation for the treatment of primary obesity. Patients and methods: the 115 patients were assigned to two groups (non randomized): the intervention group (56) and the control group (59). A descriptive retrospective study was made, analyzing the epidemiological characteristics and the decrease of the body mass relative index (IMCR). There were not significant differences in the reduction of the IMCR in both groups. The most obese patients at the beginning presented a bigger percentage of slimming. Conclusions: we conclude that there were not significant differences in the combined therapy compared to the absence of specific treatment. Further studies are required to delimit the effectiveness of the different strategies against this pathology. Key words: Obesity, Children, Nursing, Health Primary Care.
