Abstract

Perianal streptococcal dermatitis is a well-described entity, typically presenting as a perianal rash accompanied by perianal itching, pain, and/or rectal bleeding. It primarily occurs in children between six months and 10 years of age, and is often misdiagnosed and treated inappropriately. We describe three cases of perianal streptococcal dermatitis in which group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus was isolated from the perianal area. This communication is of, great interest, we believe, because of its relative little frequency, its delayed diagnostic, possibly in relation to a low level of suspicion, along with the association in two of the cases with balanopostitis, circumstance that could make arise the suspicion of abuse.
