Neonatal falls in maternity wards: never events

In-hospital neonatal falls are uncommon but potentially serious. We report the case of a newborn who fell from the mother’s bed in the maternity ward of a public tertiary care hospital in Madrid, who subsequently received a diagnosis of parietal skull fracture. We discuss preventive measures for these potentially avoidable events in wards, as well as the indications for neuroimaging in asymptomatic neonates.
