Sjögren syndrome in childhood

The Sjögren syndrome (SS) is a self-immune systemic illness, which affects mainly to middle age women. Its symptomatology consists of dryness in the mouth (xerostomy) and eyes (xeroftalmy), and it is rarely present in children. In this paper we describe the case of an 8-year-old girl, who attended our paediatric consulting room of primary care. At the moment of her visit she presented xerostomy and after examination she was diagnosed the SS. This case is interesting because: a) The whole diagnose was carried out in Primary Care. b) To our knowledge this is the only case described in Spain, and only a few have been described in other countries. c) The apparent cause of the start of the syndrome was an asymptomatic Parvovirus B19 infection, which was confirmed serologically.
