Abstract
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in childhood is the second type of cardiomyopathy, after dilated cardiomyopathy. It has a better prognosis but presents a risk of sudden death. The most common causes are genetic and there are specific syndromes that occur with HCM. It usually involves mechanical cardiac alterations and risk of arrhythmias. However, it is common for the child to be asymptomatic and we studied the child for another reason, for example following a family screening or due to some alteration detected through complementary tests. We stablish diagnosis by imaging and the treatment may involve the implantation of a defibrillator.
