MIR and university teaching in primary care pediatricians in the Basque Country in 2023. Are primary care pediatricians satisfied with the recognition of their teaching work?

Abstract

Introduction and objectives: the Basque Association of Primary Care Pediatrics (BApc), wants to know the degree of recognition and satisfaction of primary care pediatricians the degree of recognition and satisfaction of primary care pediatricians providing teaching, both undergraduate and postgraduate.

Method: survey conducted by means of a Google- Form questionnaire sent to the email of BApc partners between May-June 2023.

Results: 92 responses have been received (30% of community partners). 87% are women. 33% are between 51 and 60 years old, 31.5% less than 40 years old, 20.5% between 40 and 50 and 15% more than 60 years old. 52.17% (48), 75% (69), and 57.6% (53) of medical students participate in the MIR training in pediatrics. In the teaching program MIR in Pediatrics, 1% are principal tutors, 55% are supportive tutors and 44% say they teach, but do not know their teaching situation. In teaching medical students, there is only one associate professor. They are recognized as Docendi at 29%; they are offered a certificate at 22% and 48% have no academic recognition. Regarding the feeling regarding the recognition of this work by other professionals, they are dissatisfied with their recognition in the MIR training 66.5%, with the training of medical students 51%, being the global dissatisfaction 59%.

Conclusions: in undergraduate education only 30% have a recognition. In the Pediatrics MIR training, only 1% are principal tutors and half are supportive tutors. 60 per cent believe that recognition of their work is insufficient.
