Abstract

This paper is the continuation of another one focused on adolescent pregnancy prevention published in a previous issue of this journal. Specific results referring to sexual transmitted infections are reported.

Sexual health promotion in childhood and adolescence not only consists on preventing risks and illnesses, the objective of this review, but it has a much wider and more complex focus, involving other groups and social contexts next to childhood and adolescence. It requires intersectorial actions and clear and committed social policies.

After a comprehensive bibliographic review the author states the activities effective in the prevention of sexual transmitted infections and makes the recommendations to be implemented in the well child program since the beginning of pubertal development.
