Abstract

The existence of different types of families is a social reality. We can find single parent families, families with both parents of the same sex, reconstituted families, and families with adoptive parents. For many children who have suffered severe adversities, abandonment or neglect from their biological parents, foster care is not only a protective measure, but also a better option and alternative to institutionalization.
