To evaluate the effectivity of topical steroids treatment, plus periodic protraction,
of phimosis in boys.
Material and methods: A prospective study, without control group, was performed in
12 patients younger than 14 years of age with phimosis who were attended ambulatorily
between January 1999 and March 2000
Results: Resolution of phimosis (understood as the easy retraction of foreskin over
glans ) was achieved in 10 cases, that it suppose a 83,3% success rate.
Conclusions: Topical steroid treatment plus periodic protraction should be the election
treatment for phimosis in pre-pubescent patients. Success rate is high, have low contraindications
and few side effects. Moreover, it no contraindicates a posterior surgical treatment
in case of a hypothetical treatment failure.
