Abstract
Neglect as a form of violence against children includes both isolated and repeated incidents of neglect by a parent or caregiver with respect to the child’s development and wellbeing in terms of health care, education, emotional development, nutrition and safe living conditions. This document describes child-related and environment-related risk factors expose children to situations that increase their vulnerability and probability of experiencing maltreatment through neglect. In most cases, the parents or caregivers who neglect the child do so unintentionally and do not seek to cause harm. For this reason, these are situations that may go undetected without proactive assessment.
