Abstract
Unintentional injuries, traffic accidents and home and leisure injuries are the first cause of death in children in Spain and in the other countries of the European Community. Prevention is the first approach to face this public health issue. This paper presents the conclusions and the recommendations drawn from a comprehensive bibliographic review on the effectiveness of injury prevention from the Primary Care pediatrician and nurse’s office.
To be effective, the recommendations given must adjust to the developmental phase of the child, which predisposes him or her to a kind of injury or another. They should be individualized and approach the most serious risks that threatens each developmental age of the child, taking into account the gaps discovered in the clinical interview.
