Abstract

In most western countries accidents are the first cause of death in children of one to fifteen years of age. A bigger preventive intervention is needed in poisoning and chocking in small children and in traffic accidents in older children. Primary Care pediatricians are in a privileged situation to help changing behaviours as well as knowledge and attitudes in the way of primary prevention through sanitary education. As well as strategies promoted by authorities or changes in legislation, all of us are responsible, in an individual level, of adopting a positive attitude in order to advance and avoid these preventable conditions, childhood accidents.
